1.    Background:

In the face of ever-increasing globalization, the uses, functions and forms of language either in the real or virtual world are geared up to meet related changing needs. This fact has encouraged the English Department of Petra Christian University, Surabaya to organize a national conference under the theme of “Language in the Online and Offline World 2: The Awakening” to address contemporary language issues in the fields of linguistics, language teaching, literature, culture, media, and business communication.  This will enhance the quality and effectiveness of language use in academic and professional settings in our country.

This seminar will bring together students, teachers, scholars and media experts from all over Indonesia to discuss, reflect on and develop their perspectives as well as offer many opportunities for professional contact and development.

5.  Summary and Paper Submission:

A summary (not an abstract) written either in English or in Indonesian should be sent to the following e-mail address: langworld@petra.ac.id

The summary consists of:

- an approximately 300-word, 1.5 spaced text containing: title, background, purpose, methods, findings, discussion, and  conclusion or recommendation.

- a biographical statement with the following information: full name (with no academic title), institution, e-mail address, educational background, and research interests.

• Deadline for Summary Submission: February 14, 2011
• Notification of Summary Acceptance: February 28, 2011

Upon receiving the notification, presenters should submit a full paper either in English or in Indonesian to the aforementioned e-mail address in the following formats:

For undergraduate students:

• 3-5 pages (including bibliography), typed in A4 paper size, 12 size font, Times New Roman, single spaced

For teachers/scholars/others:

• 6-8 pages (including bibliography), typed in A4 paper size, 12 size font, Times New Roman, single spaced
• Deadline for Paper Submission: March 31, 2011

6.   Registration:

For presenters  : February 28 - March 31, 2011

• Teachers/scholars/others    Rp. 300,000, -

For participants

Early bird             : February 15- April 30, 2011
